Digestive System Science lab

Happy Friday friends!!! Second graders have had the best time learning about the wonders of the human body the last two weeks. It’s truly amazing how God makes our bodies so unique and detailed. We ARE His beautiful creation!

Using this great book, What Happens to a Hamburger...written by Paul Showers,

We learned the path that our food travels during digestion. After reading the book, we went to the science lab and pretended to be different body parts used during digestion.

First, several students represent the molars and saliva and break down the food into small pieces.

Next, students pretended to be the pancreas and stomach and mixed gastric juices with the food to break the food down even smaller.

Then, the small intestines students gathered all the nutrients from the food.

The students representing the blood took the nutrients from the food and put them into the blood stream (the heart basket).

Then, students who represent the large intestine absorb all the excess water from the food.

Last, students took the remaining food and put it into the “waste” bin.

What amazing bodies God has given us!!!
