Science Unit on Light and Sound

An FPD parent, Dr. Newman, visited with second grade on Friday, January 17 to help us learn all about sound and how our ears work. He discussed the major parts of the ear and how God made each part unique and necessary for us to hear. He also gave all the kids an opportunity to use his tools to look into an ear. So cool! Thank you Dr. Newman!

Visit to the Baptist Village

In early December, we enjoyed visiting the residents at the Baptist Village. We took them Christmas cards, sang carols, and visited with them. It was a great field trip!

Principal's Newsletter

LOWER SCHOOL NEWSLETTER from Wade Putnal
January 2020
It was great to see all the smiles and hugs as the students ran to see their friends and teachers upon their return from the holidays. All are back and in full swing to start this exciting new year and new decade!
We are looking forward to many exciting things coming up in January: Spirit Week, Chapels, NEW Center for Discovery classes, Empty Bowls Night, meeting our new Head of School- Dr. Patterson, PAN! -
the Elementary play, and 2020 Preview Day. See dates below.
A few very important reminders….
·      Please email or call the school office to set up a time to meet with teachers. Teachers want to be able to give you their full attention when you need to meet with them. Teachers are very busy preparing for the day before school and many times have planned sessions with students after school. During the school day all meeting times need to be pre-arranged as not to interrupt the learning time for students. Thank you for scheduling so your time spent with teachers is beneficial and not rushed.
·      Dress Code as stated in our handbook online- please review FPD’s Dress Code with your child: all coats, jackets and sweaters worn in the classrooms must be Lands End uniform pieces or outerwear from the FPD Spirit Shop; skirts and skorts need to be of appropriate length and should not be rolled up; haircuts for boys- out of their eyes, not past top of ears, and off the collar; girls- for safety reasons, no dangling earrings.
·      ***LABEL all items brought to school (outerwear, lunchboxes, water bottles etc.) with student’s name.

Foster children needing coats and jackets~~~ This is a need for many children coming into foster care at this time of year. If you are cleaning out closets and have any size children’s jackets in good condition that you would like to donate, please send them to school. Make sure the coats and jackets are: 1. clean (wash them first), 2. in good shape, and 3. in a bag marked DFCS. Our 5th grade teacher, Melissa Brown, will deliver them.
