Counselor's Corner

Counselor’s Corner – October
“Decorations and Costumes”
by Susan Causey, Elementary Counselor

There are some decorations and costumes which fit for only certain times of the year. Yet, the bible tells us of decorations and costumes that are not only appropriate, but essential every day for living the life the Lord desires for us.
The decorations are the words of the scripture. In Deuteronomy 11 we are instructed to, “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your house and on your gates.”
The costume is the full armor of God found in Ephesians 6. This armor includes the “belt of truth,” “the breastplate of righteousness,” the gospel of peace for the feet, the “helmet of salvation”, and the “sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” These you need so that you may stand firm when the battles come.
What I have learned following a tragedy in my family is that God’s word is alive and it comes flooding back to you when you need it the most. It gives you peace, comfort, an eternal perspective, hope, joy, and trust. Be prepared and prepare your children. Make sure they are outfitted and decorated for the inevitable challenges in life.

Polka Dots

Sing and Dance in Your Polka Dot Pants!  This is the title of one of Eric Litwin's books.  He will visit FPD on November 5th, so plan for your child to wear some sort of POLKA DOTS that day!

Here is the note from Mrs. Putnal...

Students may wear a polka dot shirt, polka dot pants, polka dot skirt
(the other part should be uniform), polka dot dress, polka dot
hair bow/ties, …
Our goal is for staff and students to have on a “touch” of polka dots when our author visits😊

LIBRARY NEWS:
If you participated in the Birthday Book Club this year, your child should bring home that special book this week along with a “party in a bag” treat.  I hope your family will enjoy the book together and return it in two weeks so we can put it on the shelves for everybody to enjoy.  Thank you so much for participating!

We are so excited about our visiting author next month, Eric Litwin, on Tuesday, November 5th.  Have you returned your order form and check if you would like to buy any of his 10 books and have them autographed during his visit?  All forms and money are due by Tuesday, Oct. 8, in time for me to pre-order the books.

Your child’s author visit will be greatly enhanced if he or she frequents the links below on your phone or iPad.  In these links, your child will hear Eric Litwin reading his books, singing the accompanying songs, and even teaching the kids the dance moves that accompany his songs and books.  Please help your child be the star singer and dancer at Mr. Litwin’s presentation!
