Spirit Week is coming – Jan 19-22!!  Elementary will have its own special dress-down days on Tuesday-Friday. (This is different from middle and high school)

Community Service Outreach NEXT WEEK – Bring school supplies and/or arts&crafts supplies for “Bo’s Camp” Tues., Jan. 19-Thurs. Jan 21. The class with the most donations will be announced as the winner at the Pep Rally on Friday and receive a special prize! See flyer for suggested donations.

1st – 5th graders: It’s time for our MATH-A-THON for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Flyers were sent home in signed papers this week. Please detach and return the Parent/Guardian Permission Slip by Tuesday, January 19th if your child will participate in this educational opportunity for a GREAT cause.  Thank you!

Open House for Prospective Families: Please invite your friends and family to tour our school on Sunday, January 24th, 3-5 pm, beginning in the Clark Fine Arts lobby. FPD Center for Discovery spring class registration is underway! Open to the community, classes are available for 3K through adults. Pick up a program guide and registration form in the Elementary Office or online at: www.fpdmacon.org/center-for-discovery

BACKPACK MINISTRY: We’re so thankful for FPD students’ service in this vital ministry to provide food for needy children every weekend. Please help us restock supplies by picking up: fruit cups, applesauce cups, juice pouch drinks, juice box drinks, vienna sausages, and peanut butter crackers. Thanks for your generous gifts!

EMPTY BOWLS EVENT: On Friday, January 22, during the girls’ and boys’ basketball games, our FPD Fine Arts department is hosting an event to raise awareness of hunger and homelessness in the Macon area. Beautiful ceramic bowls are currently being created by FPD 5th-12th grade art students, and these bowls will be available for sale during the event. Everyone is invited to come to the FPD cafeteria during the ballgames and purchase a bowl of homemade soup or chili, as well as dessert and a drink. All money raised will be donated to local agencies fighting hunger and homelessness. For more information, contact Nancy Butler or Holly Scott at fpdmacon.org.

The Viking Store has everything a Viking needs for cold weather: headwear, scarves, long sleeve spirit shirts, sweatshirts and jackets (all uniform-approved). We carry Land’s End uniform shirts and girls’ sweaters also. Visit us during Varsity basketball games!  Open school days 7:45am - 3:30pm and located in the MAC building near the cafeteria.

LIBRARY NEWS: It’s almost visiting author time! Local author Conie Mac Darnell, husband of our wonderful Lower School Librarian Cyndi Darnell, will jumpstart our Mixon-Fincher Young Author and Illustrator Week by visiting 1st-5th graders on Thurs., Feb. 4th, 12-12:30 pm in the Fine Arts Auditorium. (See the flyer for more info and how you can pre-order an autographed book.) **Pre-order forms and checks due Friday, Jan. 22nd

** Mixon-Fincher Young Author/Illustrator Celebration in your child’s classroom, Friday,      Feb. 5th – 8:15 to 9am. Parents are invited to visit as students celebrate being young authors and illustrators.
