Lower School Newsletter from Wade Putnal

Our mission at First Presbyterian Day School is to educate and equip students to change the world for God’s glory.

Register now for the 17^th Annual FPD Golf Tournament on Monday, April 18^th at Idle Hour Country Club. Cost is $150 per player or $600 per four-person team. Includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, golf balls, and golf shirt. Visit www.fpdmacon.org/golf-tournament for info.

Grandparents’ Day Shirts: The Viking Store has restocked their super-soft Grandparent’s T-shirts ($15 each.) Check them out on Facebook and Instagram! 

SAFETY DRILL: Elementary students in 3K-5^th grade will practice our safety procedures on Monday, April 11^th. Safety is a top priority at FPD. This drill will help us practice precautions and procedures should an “unsafe” situation arise on our campus. We want to inform parents about this safety drill in case your child tells you about it. Thank you!

All students 1^st-8^th grade will be taking standardized tests. Please remember the importance of early bedtimes and rest. Children should eat a good breakfast, including some protein, and must arrive at school ON TIME. Please do not schedule doctor’s appointments or other activities that cause your child to miss school or leave early during these days.

ELEMENTARY (1^st-5^th grade) FIELD DAY - Friday, May 13^th- 9:15 to 12noon. Half-day early dismissal for these students. 3K, Pre-K, K students have regular school hours, 8:15-3pm.

LIBRARY NEWS: Wow! What a Book Fair! Thank you to students, parents, and grandparents for supporting our Fair so generously. Our profits translate into lots of new books and hopefully another awesome guest author next year. Our Book Fair was run by our wonderful library VPA mom, Elizabeth Hardy, who enlisted the help of many moms and dads. Thank you so much, Elizabeth and volunteers, for giving your time and energy! You’re the best!

BACKPACK MINISTRY: Help us restock by sending vienna sausages, peanut butter crackers, fruit cups, and juice pouches. We’re always thankful for your help!

Congratulations to the 17 students who participated in our MATH-A-THON! Together you raised $2,344 for the patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Way to go!

The Viking Store News: Many great gift items available for a Viking: Red & black nail polish/decals, Pomchie hair accessories/lanyards, beach drink spikes, wall decor, car tags, and new t-shirt designs. Sale items: $10 t-shirts, long sleeved t-shirts and outerwear 20% off, flannel sleep pants $10 and Adidas shorts $10. Open M-F 7:45a – 3:30p, in the MAC lobby.

CHECK OUT our SUMMER CAMP brochure online! Through FPD’s Center for Discovery, students can explore, play, discover, learn, and create this summer. Classes include sports, crafts, pets, baking, music, Harry Potter - there is something for every student! All are hosted on our campus by caring instructors who teach according to FPD’s Core Values. Bring your friends, neighbors, and cousins! MOMS: Do you often find yourself threatening, repeating instructions, or raising your voice to your children? Please join us for a parenting conference with Ginger Hubbard, author of “Don’t Make Me Count to Three!” on Wed., May 11^th at First Presbyterian Church, 7pm – 8:30pm. Register before May 4 via email: msanchez@fpcmacon.org. Ginger’s candid approach encourages moms to develop a confident and well-balanced approach to raising children.

v  4^th Grade Parent meeting: Monday, April 11^th at 5:30pm for those interested in “Early Bird” payment planning for next year’s Washington, DC trip. Meet in Media Center.

v  5^th Grade Parent meeting: Monday, April 11^th at 6:00pm. Final info meeting for our current Washington, DC trip. Meet in Media Center.

v  Fine Arts Band Night: April 12^th, 7:00 pm. 5^th grade, MS and HS bands will perform.

v  Dress Down Day, Friday, April 15^th – $1 donations support local animal shelters

v  Elementary Chapel: April 19^th, 12:05 pm. First grade leads. Parents always welcome!

v  NO LATE START on Wednesday, April 20^th, due to testing. School begins at 8:15 am.

v  FPD’s uniform consignment sale is May 23^rd – 24^th in the MAC. You may buy and sell new and/or gently-used FPD uniform items. Parents can consign Lands’ End uniforms (not Sunshine), any item purchased in The Viking Store, and other school-related items. If you don’t want to sell items, you may donate them to the school - just bring to the Viking Store anytime. (Please don’t donate locally for security reasons.) A donation receipt can be issued for tax purposes, if desired. More information coming on FPD website soon.
